A trend we have been watching for a few years with our annual rural video study report is the high percentage of consumers who engage in viewing video on their mobile devices.
Overall 67% of rural American households stream video or watch live television programs on a mobile device, such as a laptop, iPad, or smartphone. Not surprisingly the highest percentage is in the 18-34 year old demographic. What is surprising is the number of those over 55 who are taking to the devices. Our study report shows a 5% increase from 2021 to 43% in 2023.
Multiple Content Access Options
In addition to SVOD services like Netflix, live-streaming solutions such as YouTube TV and Hulu Live have been the beneficiaries of mobile app viewing. More recently local video operators have been getting in the game by delivering access to their full channel lineups. Many of the Innovative Systems MG-TV providers are offering this mobile experience with the iPad being one of the more popular devices.
