WV Coop Board Mandates Local Video Offering

Back to Insights

Northeastern West Virginia is home to Spruce Knob Seneca Rocks Telco (SKSRT), where the cooperative board decided to upgrade its video system as a commitment to providing local service to its members.

Situated in the small town of Riverton, SKSRT offers fiber internet, video, and voice services to approximately 1500 customers spread out over 600 miles of fiber.  Video Technical Director Stacy Waggy says that they have been happy with the decision to utilize the MG-TV solution from Innovative Systems. Waggy particularly noted the technical expertise that he received from longtime Innovative support specialists Travis Strand and Eric Trump, saying that they provided an “outstanding vendor experience.”

One of their goals for the new MG-TV customer experience is for customers to engage with features they have not had before. One of those features is Restart TV, and Waggy is looking forward to utilizing the Innovative Systems-produced video tutorials. An efficient way to do this is to stream them to one of the channels in their lineup so they can access them right from their program guide.

Offering multiple services to customers, like SKSRT, is becoming increasingly important. At this month’s Pro Video Group meeting, one operator highlighted that Amazon is on a mission to dominate the home service market with the upcoming launch of Amazon LEO Internet, as well as video, music, and other consumer services. This raises concerns about the risk of becoming a commoditized service provider, merely offering a broadband connection while allowing others to provide the additional services.
