Preferred Outage Notification Channels

Back to Insights

Should anyone be surprised that the tried-and-true telephone, be it a landline or a mobile, remains the most popular means by which a customer prefers to be notified of a service outage from a telecommunications provider?

According to the 11th Annual Rural Subscriber Study, which surveyed over 800 rural consumers, a majority prefer to be notified of service provider outages via text message or phone call. The most interesting finding in the data was that a larger percentage of individuals aged 55 and older preferred text notifications compared to those in the 18-54 age group.

While there is an appetite for mobile apps from BSPs, the data doesn’t currently support much interest in adoption. This low mobile app usage was also noted in the notifications section for installs, new products, and marketing promotions.
