20% of Younger Consumers Interested in Live Television

Back to Insights

Is it possible that App Fatigue is starting to set in with the 18-34 year old demographic of rural consumers?

According to the 2025 Rural Subscriber Study, 20% of individuals aged 18-34 expressed interest in receiving television services if offered by their broadband service provider. This younger group also showed a strong interest in security cameras and cybersecurity as potential services they would subscribe to if offered.

Streaming Service Explosion

Without an independent platform to aggregate all of the streaming services, consumers face a substantial challenge in picking and paying for them. Data from the 2019 Rural Subscriber study validates the exponential increase of streaming services. Back then there were only three services that measured at least 4% of the market share, today there are 13.

Although conventional wisdom suggests that video consumption will continue to gravitate towards streaming, there are signs of emerging issues. Consumers are looking at a smorgasbord of streaming options, which will ultimately dominate their monthly credit card statements. A local live streaming cable service offering advanced time-shifted viewing and DVR capabilities could become an appealing choice at a reasonable price, all consolidated into one bill.
