Several key factors were likely the cause for an increase in the number of rural consumers who subscribe to DVR service from their video providers. According the the Fifth Annual Rural Video and Broadband study conducted by Cronin Communications, 64% of rural Americans now have DVR service in their homes an increase of 10% from 2019, and an all-time high in the five-year history of the study.
Why the Increase?
First and foremost, more consumers want to watch content on their own terms as they become accustom to this with SVOD subscriptions to services like Netflix. Another contributor is network storage technology that is now available for many rural video providers. Cloud DVR (cDVR) does not require a costly service call or a premise-based DVR unit, lowering costs and creating inexpensive free-trial marketing opportunities.
