For rural communications companies like Rye Telephone Company (RTC), emergency service organizations are an important component to the overall health of the customers they serve. With the addition of the APMAX Firebar service to Rye’s network, Central Office Supervisor Shawn Davis says calls received at the local 911 PSAP can be quickly passed on to the Firebar number which connects with all of the emergency responders.
Prior to having Firebar, the responders were connected via UHF radio systems which were effective, but more cumbersome in terms of mobility. Davis says the service is mutually beneficial for the volunteer departments and RTC, adding that the emergency organizations did contribute funding to the project.
One of the biggest improvements reported by the emergency organizations is that they now have detailed log reports on who participates in every Firebar call.
